The Eagles have $27 million in cap space following June 1 release of Darius Slay and James Bradberry, and that number will increase once the Bryce Huff trade is finalized and Brandon Graham retires
June 21 is the official start of summer, but June 1 is a massive date around the league and will likely play a factor in several players moving on or teams taking a risk on a considerable trade.
In NFL terminology, June 1 is the final day that teams see all future prorated money accelerate as “dead money” if a player is released. This morning, Philadelphia gained salary cap space, as any player designated for a post-June one release earlier this year will move from the active roster to the dead money side of the books. Darius Slay is now a Steelers cornerback, and James Bradberry is a free agent, but their salary cap ramifications will be felt in the coming season.
According to Over The Cap, the Philadelphia Eagles have $27 million in cap space following the June 1 release of Darius Slay and James Bradberry. That number will increase once the Bryce Huff trade is finalized and Brandon Graham retires.
The Eagles have a looming contract decision for Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith, and will likely carry that $27 million into 2026.
Philadelphia will add another $3.6 million in cap space with the trade of Huff and the retirement of Graham. Huff will have $4.94 million in dead money this year and $16.614 million next year. The Eagles reworked Huff’s contract, paying him around $8 million in roster bonuses to facilitate the trade.
Graham could be released before he files paperwork for the retired list. They only gain $1.25 million, and he will count for $4.55 million this year and $4.44 million in 2026 in dead cap.
