EAGAN, MN. (Dakota News Now) -The Minnesota Vikings and Kevin O’Connell said there would be a quarterback competition in fall camp to determine the starter.
I had a hard time thinking they would sign the talented Kyler Murray to sit on the bench.
And they are apparently happy with the progress he is making with a new system, because the former Arizona Cardinals QB got the nod today from his new coach.
Kevin O’Connell, Vikings HC says, “In my opinion he’s got the skillset and the abilities not only just from the standpoint of accuracy, but his ability to affect the game with his athleticism. He’s also proven to be very smart, hard-working and take in a lot of information and churn that out. Now we really want to start giving him an opportunity to build a comfort level, not only with the system but with the guys. In no way does this diminish anything that JJ has demonstrated.”
Murray has a ton of talent. He’s a terrific playmaker but tends to play a bit like Brett Favre. And he is prone to injury because he scrambles so much and he’s a bit under-sized.
I do think this was the obvious choice when naming the starting QB.
