After a successful official visit, the Huskies have earned a commitment from Las Vegas Safety, Gavin Day. Day was already quite popular in recruiting circles, but his ranking recently caught up with the hype after jumping 580 spots in 247’s rankings and checking in at #226 overall in the nation. Out west he is rated as the fourth highest safety prospect, but he is arguably the best pure safety prospect among that group.
The Huskies were very late to the party in offering and recruiting Day. He had already lined up official visits to Minnesota, Arizona, Iowa, Arizona State, and Utah respectively, so it appeared there was a large hill to climb to get in the conversation with Day. Good thing safeties coach Taylor Mays packed his hiking boots, because he went all in on Day. He offered Day after seeing him workout and was relentless. He did an in home visit, was hitting him up every day, and got him to schedule an official visit in the span of about two weeks.
Turning on the tape, Day is everything you want in a strong safety. He is big, fast, strong, and hits like a truck. He also shows advanced technical skill for his age with a smooth back pedal as well as good tackling form. All of those traits to go with an impressive 6’3 190 Lbs. frame makes him incredibly desirable for college coaches.
