During the Indianapolis Colts’ first OTA practice on Wednesday, rookie tight end Tyler Warren played a prominent role in the passing game, whether it was Anthony Richardson or Daniel Jones at quarterback.

And as Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan described, it wasn’t only underneath passes that Warren was hauling in.

“Wednesday was a very active day for rookie tight end Tyler Warren,” wrote Bowen. “And this wasn’t Warren catching a bunch of underneath passes either. No matter the quarterback, Warren was a frequent target of Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, mainly during the 7-on-7 sessions.”

Tyler Warren’s impact on the Indianapolis Colts‘ offense

The addition of Warren can give the Colts that needed passing game boost from the tight end position. He is coming off a 2024 season at Penn State where he eclipsed 100 receptions and went over 1,200 receiving yards.

As GM Chris Ballard noted after the draft, over the middle of the field is where Warren can be a real threat in the passing game. His combination of size and athleticism makes him a difficult matchup, not to mention that he’s a reliable pass catcher as well.

In addition to Warren’s contributions in the passing game, once the pads come on over the summer, his full impact will be better felt with his ability to hold up in the run game as a blocker, along with the versatility he adds by being able to line up across the formation.

Warren filled a do-it-all role at Penn State and can bring a similar element to the Colts’ offense.
