LINCOLN, Neb (WOWT) – Nebraska football has dismissed redshirt freshman running back Tikey Hayes, a source within the program confirmed to First Alert 6.
The school has not revealed a reason for his dismissal or issued a statement.
Hayes, who started his college career at Penn State before joining Iowa Western in the spring, arrived on campus in Lincoln this summer before the start of fall camp. He never played for the Reivers, but recorded three carries for 18 yards in the Nittany Lions’ 22-10 Pinstripe Bowl win over Clemson in his only game with the school.
Hayes participated in fall camp practices with the Huskers and Nebraska Football Fan Day on Aug. 8.
Nebraska’s running back competition now appears to be taking shape among sophomores Mekhi Nelson and Isaiah Mozee and freshman Jamal Rule. Junior Kwinten Ives and redshirt freshman Conor Booth, a Wahoo native, are also in the mix.
Senior Vincent Genatone, a North Platte native, was moved from linebacker to running back this offseason to provide added depth at the position.
