The college football season is quickly approaching, and soon a new quest for the College Football Playoff will begin. Not only that, some returning college football seniors will look to boost their draft stock in the process.
One of those players is South Carolina Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers. He had the opportunity to declare for the NFL Draft after last season, but he decided to return for a fourth year in 2026. This provides him with an opportunity to bounce back after a rough 2025 season.

To help with this, it appears Sellers is taking a different approach to his academic work. According to a recent report, Sellers will complete an internship at a driving range in lieu of taking a full course load.

Fulfilling a vital degree requirement
The idea behind this approach could be for Sellers to focus on football and his internship rather than taking multiple classes. An internship practicum isn’t uncommon in college coursework, though that hasn’t stopped some from asking questions.
The biggest question, of course, is how this is allowed. Again, this type of approach isn’t uncommon. In fact, it’s almost required for most Sport and Entertainment Management degrees, which Sellers is majoring in at South Carolina.

Whether it’s South Carolina or a smaller school like the University of West Georgia, the major’s course requirements typically include an internship toward the end of a student’s bachelor’s degree. A driving range also makes sense for a Sports Management major, so this shouldn’t raise any concerns.

Sellers has a chance to accomplish a few incredible things in his young football career. He can not only boost his stock for the 2027 NFL Draft, but also earn his degree while guiding his team toward the College Football Playoff.
That’s also not including other individual goals, such as qualifying for the Heisman Trophy. Sellers could have a big 2026 ahead of him, both on and off the field.
