INDIANAPOLIS — Former Watauga Pioneer Anderson Castle led the Indianapolis Colts in rushing yards in his second NFL preseason game on Saturday.
Castle rushed for 41 yards in eight attempts in the Colts’ 34-6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry.
The game was on par with the first preseason game of the season, where he rushed for 47 yards on nine attempts for an average of 5.2 yards per carry against the Patriots.
Castle played for the Watauga High School varsity football team for three years, where he rushed for 4,424 yards and 70 touchdowns during his three varsity seasons.
That included 2,223 yards and 36 touchdowns in his senior season, where he helped lead Watauga to a 13-1 mark and a trip to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3AA West Regional finals.
Castle also played on Watauga’s boys basketball and baseball teams during his four years of high school.
He went on to play for App State for five seasons, rushing for 1,036 yards and eight touchdowns while helping the Mountaineers play in a trio of bowl games (2020 Myrtle Beach, 2021 Boca Raton, 2023 Cure) and a pair of Sun Belt Conference Championship game appearances in 2021 and 2023.
His final season in college was at Duke, where he rushed for 488 yards and 12 touchdowns on 115 carries in 14 games.
Indianapolis agreed to terms with Castle following the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft after he went unselected. Undrafted free-agent signings allow players to try to make an NFL roster through training camp and the preseason.
