The teams meet Friday night at AT&T Stadium.
On August 18, both teams were involved in a fight-filled practice that saw two players, Donovan Ezeiruaku and Caelen Carson, get kicked out for throwing punches. Also, two Saints players, receiver Chris Olave and running back Alvin Kamara, were injured in the practice.
Kamara suffered the most serious injury, a sprained MCL, which prompted the Saints to trade for a running back to provide depth.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he was appealing the fine. Ezeiruaku and Carson were also subjected to team fines for their behavior in the joint practice.
When the practice was over, both teams greeted each other warmly.
“I mean, we’re into these position battles and things like that,” Schottenheimer said when asked about any potential issues with the Saints. “And these guys are excited to go out and play football. And mostly we’re excited to be back home in AT&T Stadium and can’t wait to watch these guys compete.”
When Schottenheimer was told he wasn’t answering the question, he quipped with a smile, “[I] talk to our guys about a lot of different things.”
