KANSAS CITY—For the first time seven months, Seahawks cornerback Trevon Diggs finally was able to put on football gear and go out on and play against an opponent.
The last time he suited up for a game was in January when he was playing for the Green Bay Packers during the playoffs. After just two practices with the Seahawks, the three drives that Diggs played on Friday night were a good way to get back into the routine of playing football.
“I feel I got the jitters out,” he said. “I haven’t played in, what, seven months since I put on equipment and just been flying around and going against someone else. I only had two practices. So just getting out there and just getting the natural football feeling, getting that feeling back, it felt good.”
Diggs, a former first-team All-Pro and two-time Pro-Bowler, has been with Seattle for a little less than two weeks, and Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said he’s been “impressed since he got here.”
In the limited amount of football he played on Friday, Diggs came away with an interception, Seattle’s only defensive takeaway of the night, which also resulted in the celebration penalties that head coach Mike Macdonald loves so much in the preseason.
“He’s really come up to speed, which is saying something,” Macdonald said. “And I think our players have done a great job of coaching him up and you hear him in walkthroughs, our guys coach him up, play to play, and he knows ball. All it is, is just kind of connecting dots and connecting some of that, all the things that he’s heard to the new techniques, the new words and stuff. So did some great things today. Obviously to have the interception was pretty awesome.”
