Sean Clifford didn’t make the cut on his hometown team.
The former Penn State quarterback was waived by the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday as part of the Bengals’ cuts to get to 53 players.
Clifford accumulated 179 yards and two touchdowns in his preseason appearances with the Bengals. There’s a chance Clifford returns to the practice squad given the Bengals hold just two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster in Joe Burrow and Joe Flacco.
At Penn State, Clifford led the Nittany Lions to multiple major bowl appearances, including a Rose Bowl win over Utah to conclude the 2022-23 season.
Clifford was selected with the 149th pick in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers before making his way to Cincinnati on the practice squad late in the 2025 NFL season.
Cincinnati has just one former Penn Stater on the 53-man roster, tight end Mike Gesicki, who’ll begin his ninth season in the NFL.
