Rams Declined Potential Blockbuster Trade in 2025 NFL Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

In the 2025 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams waited until the seventh round to select a wide receiver with the selection of Pittsburgh Panthers’ Konata Mumpfield with the No. 242 pick.

They seemingly had an offer on the table, as they called the Carolina Panthers in hopes to move up for the No. 8 overall pick.

If they were able to pull it off, they would have had the chance to take the top drafted wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, who the Panthers selected.

The Panthers were set on taking McMillan, so when the Rams called inquiring on the pick, they offered them something they probably would never accept.

There has yet to be an official offer for the trade that was offered, general manager of the Panthers Dan Morgan stated that “they’re going to have to go above and beyond” with their offer.

With how much Morgan and the rest of the Panthers liked McMillan, it’s likely the Rams would have had to shell out a lot of future picks, including multiple first rounders in order to make the trade happen.

The Rams, after wisely not accepting a huge offer, was not done with trades in the first round, with trading back into the second round after the Atlanta Falcons called to trade up and select James Pearce Jr.

With the two picks they received this year from Atlanta, they selected tight end Terrance Ferguson, and Mumpfield. They also have Atlanta’s first round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Les Snead, general manager of the Rams, is typically always looking to trade draft picks, and has been a draft guru over the past few years. This trade could prove to be just that, especially with a first round pick depending on the Falcons’ success this season.
