The Los Angeles Chargers signed quarterback Justin Herbert’s brother, Patrick, to the practice squad after he was waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Justin, the face of the franchise and the signal caller for the next five years of Chargers football, has gone through a lot of personal changes, including recently getting engaged to pop star Maddison Beer.
Who is Patrick Herbert
His brother, Patrick, was a tight end on the Oregon Ducks with Justin during the 2019 season.
Since then, they have been on different trajectories: Justin went on to be a top pick, while Patrick has been fighting for a roster spot.

Patrick was an undrafted rookie last year, signed by the Jaguars, and he ended up facing his brother in a game.

That’s so cool,” Herbert said.
He has been with the Jacksonville Jaguars this preseason, catching two passes for 12 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He was cut and didn’t make the roster, so he considered his options and chose his brother’s team.
What will Patrick Herbert’s role be on the Chargers
Patrick is only on the practice squad, meaning he will not be on the active roster or eligible to play unless he gets injured.
The Chargers have three quality tight ends in Charlie Kolar, Oronde Gadsden, and David Njoku, all three of whom can block and catch the ball.

With the three of them in the mix, the Chargers will likely use a lot of two- and three-tight-end sets to take advantage of their depth.
If one of them goes down, given how much the Chargers will want to block for passing and running plays, Herbert has a chance to protect his brother and feature on the same side of the ball.
After getting cut, Patrick has a chance to breathe new life into his NFL future, and under offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, he has a real opportunity to be optimized.
