The Pittsburgh Steelers had a wild 2025 season. One that quite literally came down to the final kick in the regular season. Pittsburgh led by one point, with Tyler Loop attempting a 44-yard field goal to give the Baltimore Ravens the win, a division title, and a playoff berth over the Steelers all at once.

Loop missed wide right.

For a kicker, that’s the absolute worst way to begin an offseason. And he hasn’t shaken that mentality off yet during training camp. As a result, the Ravens are bringing in another name to give him some competition, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo.

“The Ravens announced the signing of veteran K Jake Moody to the practice squad. With Tyler Loop struggling, a veteran presence is added,” Garafolo wrote in a tweet posted Monday.

It’s tough for Loop, who’s still looking to rebound after how last year ended. And while his missed kick stole all the headlines, Loop did actually have a pretty decent rookie year. He attempted 30 total kicks and made 34 of them, while converting on 44 of 46 extra points as well.

For what it’s worth, Ravens HC Jesse Minter reiterated his confidence in Tyler Loop on Monday.

“I have a lot of confidence in Tyler, still. Again, he’s had a great training camp. I expect him to be our kicker going into Indianapolis. But I think again, you’re just trying to have every scenario covered,” Minter said via Jonas Shaffer on X.

Jesse Minter said he still has “a lot of confidence” in Tyler Loop and expects him to kick in Week 1.

Loop was perfect on the shorter kicks last year, making all 21 of his attempts from 21-39 yards out. He was even efficient on his 40-49 yard kicks, making eight of his nine attempts from that distance, with his season-ending miss being the only one he didn’t put through the uprights. But distance has been a clear issue for him. Loop made just one of his four attempts of over 50 yards last year.

Loop missed one kick in the Ravens’ first preseason game, and then missed two in their third. He’s been less than dominant, and Jake Moody will threaten his job. Like Loop, Moody knows what it’s like to face expectations as a drafted kicker. San Francisco took him in the third round in 2023. But he’s been inconsistent throughout his career, making just 64 of his 82 attempts.

For Tyler Loop’s sake, hopefully he can find a way to rebound and keep his job. Although he’s a Raven, it’s never fun to see a young player’s career turn on a crucial mistake like that. But for better or worse, his name is forever etched into the lore of this rivalry. He’ll hope the kick that caused that isn’t his last regular-season kick as a Raven.
