-Fernando Carmona has been working with the 1s at right guard since his surge during training camp.
On Tuesday, coach Robert Saleh named Carmona the starter for the team’s Week 1 contest against the Jets.
“Fernando is going to start at right guard,” Saleh said. “I thought he’s done an outstanding job. We gave him the opportunity to step in there and show what he can do, and when he got in that spot he just wouldn’t relent. Credit to him, he is a mauler, he is a fighter … He has a lot of work to do, and he is going to see some of the best d-tackles in all of football. But I do think he is up for the challenge.”
-Rookie receiver Carnell Tate and tight end David Martin-Robinson were not spotted on the field during the stretch period of today’s practice.
Saleh said Tate is working through some stiffness, while Martin-Robinson had some soreness after the last preseason game, so the team is giving him extra time to recover.
