The Denver Broncos are gearing up to take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football to begin the 2026 regular season. Going up against a division rival on the road ups the stakes and makes their Week 1 matchup the most intriguing game of the week.

In order to defend their AFC West Crow, it will be critical for the Broncos to take a big leap forward on offense. To help make that happen, they made a huge trade for Jaylen Waddle at the beginning of the offseason. Waddle’s a versatile player who can play inside and out.

While his production dipped the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins, he is still big-time playmaker. Since coming into the league, Waddle has been a tremendous chain mover, deep ball threat, and ranks highly with respect to yards after the catch. He has a chance to be the X-Factor for Denver’s offense this season and help them become a Top 10 unit in the National Football League.

Yesterday after practice, tight end Evan Engram offered his thoughts on what Waddle has brought to the team’s dynamic on offense.

“It’s a no brainer honestly. His impact that he has and the speed that he has. He’s really smart and savvy too. I think it’s going to help our offense a lot when you have to account for him every time that he is on the field. Sometimes that doesn’t even matter with his talent,” stated Engram.

“We’re excited to have him. He’s had a great camp, and he’s meshed really well. He’s a great locker room guy. He’s really funny. He fits really well in with the DNA of our team, and he’s going to be a big part of our offense.”

One area Waddle should provide an immediate boost is with respect to catch percentage. He figures to be one of, if not the highest volume target in Denver’s aerial attack. Last season, both Courtland Sutton and Troy Franklin had issues in that regard. Both sported sub-65 percent catch rates, which is below average for top passing targets.

If Denver wants to compete for a Lombardi Trophy, they have to get better on third downs, and their top pass catchers have to perform much better than that. Over the course of his career, Waddle has been nearly a 70-percent catch-rate player. His efficiency in that respect should give quarterback Bo Nix a top-flight target whether it’s on screens, operating over the middle of the field, or even on deep balls.

I’m excited for the potential the Broncos’ offense has this season. In order for them to reach that, they are going to need Waddle to have an immediate impact with the team. I’m confident he will be able to do that and expect him to be a focal point of the team’s offensive gameplan for their Week 1 primetime matchup against the Chiefs.
