Just a few days after setting their initial 53-man roster, the Dallas Cowboys are making some practice squad moves.

The Cowboys have signed tight end James Mitchell to their practice squad, the team announced Thursday evening. In a corresponding move, Dallas waived tight end Mitch Van Vooren from the practice squad.

Mitchell has plenty of experience at the NFL level. He initially entered the league in 2022 when he was selected by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round of the NFL draft. Mitchell spent the first three seasons of his professional career with the Lions. He spent the 2025 campaign with the Carolina Panthers.

The 6-4 tight end has posted 16 catches for 169 yards and one touchdown since 2022.
