Will Levis handed shock NFL career lifeline as quarterback tries out with team

WILL LEVIS has been handed a shock chance to save his NFL career with the New York Jets.

The quarterback, 27, was hit with a major setback when he was cut from the Tennessee Titans’ roster last week.

Levis did not make the 53-man squad and cleared waivers without being picked up.

That left the former Kentucky Wildcats star in limbo just days before the new NFL season gets underway.

But Levis, who missed the entire 2025 campaign after undergoing shoulder surgery, has been given an opportunity to reignite his career.

He was spotted at the Jets’ training facility taking part in a workout on Thursday.

And Levis will pen a deal to join the franchise’s practice squad if he impresses in the coming days.

In another shock twist, Jack Plummer is standing in his way as he seeks a return to NFL action.

The pair have both been working out with the Jets and are competing for the same spot.

Head coach Aaron Glenn has already confirmed Geno Smith will be the starting quarterback in the season opener against the Titans, with rookie Cade Klubnik waiting in the wings.

With this season’s schedule now revealed, eager NFL fans are looking to secure tickets to their favorite games.

The former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator, 54, said: “He’s our backup quarterback, and he’ll do a good job.

“There’s just a confidence in how he operates and what he’s done in practice, what he’s done in the games.

“I don’t think anybody ever said there weren’t going to be hiccups. I mean, he’s a rookie. He’s always learning, but he’s a very intelligent guy. 

“We’re proud that we have him and he’s improved over the course of training camp and he’s going to continue to improve. 

“That room throughout training camp was a room that we kept a close eye on just to see how those guys operated and Cade has done a really good job for us.”

It means Levis and UFL MVP Plummer are battling it out behind the scenes for a place in the practice squad, which currently includes Bailey Zappe.

The Jets hopeful was a first round draft pick in 2023, with Tennessee selecting him 33rd overall.

Levis then became a starter halfway through his rookie campaign with the Titans before nailing down the role the following season.

But going under the knife resulted in the Titans getting their hands on Cam Ward.

And Levis was released when Mitch Trubisky beat him to the backup role at training camp, where footage went viral of him struggling to keep his feet.
