CLEVELAND (WJW) — The FOX 8 I-Team has uncovered more about what’s happening with plans to have more buses and trains at and around the new stadium for the Cleveland Browns.

We’ve learned of a new effort to find grant money to help pay for an RTA rapid stop at the complex under construction for the new Browns stadium.

Construction began earlier this year on a new domed stadium with development around it in Brook Park. The stadium is expected to open in 2029.

The first steps have just been taken in the process that would clear the way for RTA to file a big request for federal money.

A local transportation planning group has begun discussing plans for a possible rapid station at the new Browns stadium. RTA would be seeking $60 million for the project.

In the meantime, last month the Browns spoke to the I-Team about hoping to find federal funding for a new rapid stop.

“We’re gonna be in Brook Park. That’s where RTA needs to be,” Ted Tywang, general counsel for the Haslam Sports Group, said.

“But then, also thinking longer term: can we get a station on site? I think we’re aligned thinking that would be a great thing. But, just figuring out the details: How does that get delivered? How does that get funded? But, they’ve been a great partner, and we talk to them all the time.”

Brook Park Mayor Ed Orcutt has also told local businesspeople the city is talking to RTA about adding bus service to the area.

Lately, RTA has been holding hearings about overall service cuts. Now, it’s about to finalize some hard decisions.

But as the new stadium gets built, RTA said it will review schedules to “accommodate increased ridership demand.”

“It’s exciting. I’m only 3 miles down the road [from the new stadium site],” said Adam Radogna, who opened a new Italian restaurant called Adamo’s in Brook Park.

He’s hoping for more bus service when the new stadium opens.

“Just so they can come to my business, then head to the stadium, or come back, or vice versa, to my restaurant, and things like that,” he said.

“Just had a soft opening. We’ll have a huge grand opening and hopefully be ready for the Browns in three years,” Radogna said.

The city of Brook Park has already started moving ahead with plans for highway improvements to handle more traffic around the new stadium.

Now, we’re starting to see what’s factoring into plans for buses and trains.
