Officials report several kids were playing football at a Spartanburg County middle school when lightning struck the field.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office responded to Fairforest Middle School after reports of a lightning strike on the football field.

Deputies say 6 kids were on the field at the time of the strike, but none were directly hit.

The strike did reportedly get close enough that one of the kids was knocked unconscious, according to authorities.

The kids were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, but all appear to be okay, deputies say.
