FOXBOROUGH, Mass. —

The New England Patriots are saying goodbye to former captain David Andrews, who is retiring after a decade with the team.

The longtime center, who signed with the team as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2015, helped lead the Patriots to three straight Super Bowls, winning two and serving as the anchor of the offensive line.

Andrews played in 121 of 124 possible games, served as an eight-time team captain and was known for his leadership on and off the field.

During an emotional press conference at Gillette Stadium on Monday, Andrews broke down at the podium as he reflected on his career.

He thanked teammates, coaches and everyone who works for the Patriots, including kitchen staff and the grounds crew.

“The memories that we made on the field, but more importantly off the field, will always hold a special place in my heart,” Andrews said.

The Patriots released Andrews in March. When asked why he didn’t pursue another opportunity in the NFL, the 32-year-old said he did not want to play for another organization.

Andrews was the last remaining player from New England’s 2018 Super Bowl team.
