Ladies and gentlemen, we have officially made it to the start of the 2026 NFL season, and it’s going to get off to quite a start for our Minnesota Vikings as they play host to their biggest rivals.
The Vikings will welcome the Green Bay Packers to U.S. Bank Stadium to kick off the regular season, and it will be featured across the country on CBS in the late window on Sunday afternoon.
These two teams split their series last season. The Packers thumped the Vikings in Week 12 at Lambeau Field by a score of 23-6 as Micah Parsons single-handedly shredded the Minnesota offensive line, while the Vikings won the regular season finale at U.S. Bank Stadium, 16-3, as the Packers rested a bunch of their players as they had nothing to play for going into the postseason.
Green Bay will come into this one without a couple of pretty significant pieces. Parsons, who tore an ACL late last season, is on the Physically Unable to Perform List for the Packers and will miss at least the first four games of this season, while running back Josh Jacobs is on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, fallout from a domestic violence incident from this offseason.
The Vikings, once again, have another new face at quarterback to start the season, as Kyler Murray will take over as the starter for Kevin O’Connell’s team. He played just one drive in the preseason, but has apparently gotten very solid reviews in practice this offseason. We’ll see how well that transfers over to the field when things get real. The Vikings’ defense, which finished last season on a serious roll, will look to bring that momentum into this season. If the offense can back them up at a higher level than they did last season, this could be a big year in Minnesota.
