The Eagles on Friday morning made a practice squad swap.
They signed veteran receiver Xavier Gipson to their practice squad and placed receiver Danny Gray on the practice squad Injured Reserve list. Gipson was wearing No. 86 on Friday.
Gipson, 25, spent this training camp with the Giants but was released at final cuts. Gipson was with the Eagles in 2025 and played in five games. He had 2 catches for 6 yards and returned 6 punts for 67 yards.
You might remember that Gipson had a costly error in the Eagles’ Week 12 loss to the Cowboys when he fielded a punt at the 2-yard line and fumbled the ball away. He also got injured on that play and was released a few weeks later on Dec. 7.
The Eagles initially claimed Gipson off waivers from the Giants last September. After the Eagles cut him, he went back to the Giants’ practice squad.
Gipson began his NFL career as a UDFA with the Jets in 2023 out of Stephen F. Austin. In his first three NFL season, Gipson has returned 74 punts with an average of 9.1 yards per return.
Gray, 27, spent this training camp with the Eagles and eventually signed to the practice squad after being released at final cuts. Gray was a 49ers’ third-round pick back in 2022 out of SMU.
