Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for their Week 1 matchup against the Denver Broncos with several players dealing with injuries. Chris Jones was not among them when the team released its initial injury information earlier in the week.
Kansas City is now monitoring its star defensive tackle just days before the season opener at Arrowhead Stadium. Jones has been one of the most important pieces of the Chiefs’ defense throughout his career, making any late change to his practice status worth watching.

The Chiefs added Jones to the injury report Friday, listing him as a limited participant because of a calf injury. He had participated fully in Thursday’s practice and was not listed on the injury report that day.
There is no indication yet that the injury will keep Jones out Monday night. The Chiefs’ official report currently lists his game status as unspecified, meaning Kansas City still has another practice report before making a final determination on his availability.

Jones spoke with reporters before Friday’s practice and was not initially expected to be dealing with a new injury designation. His subsequent limitation therefore represents a notable change heading into the weekend.
Kansas City needs Jones healthy against a Denver offense led by Bo Nix. The veteran defensive tackle remains one of the biggest pieces of Steve Spagnuolo’s defense, and his presence could be particularly important against a Broncos offensive line that will look to keep Nix clean.
The Chiefs will have another practice on Saturday and are expected to provide more clarity on Jones’ status before Monday night’s opener.
