Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Parker Washington is reportedly on track to start the 2026 season on an expiring contract.
NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported Saturday it is “unlikely” Washington will sign an extension before the Jaguars open the season Sunday afternoon.
According to Wolfe, the Jaguars previously “explored” a deal in the range of the three-year, $75 million extension Michael Wilson recently signed with the Arizona Cardinals.
Wilson signed his deal, which included $47 million in guaranteed money, after topping 1,000 receiving yards in 17 games of his third season with the Cardinals.
Washington is currently heading into the 2026 season under a $3.7 million cap hit in the final year of his rookie deal.
He told reporters that as of Thursday he was still getting daily updates from his agent about ongoing communication with the Jaguars.
The Jaguars wide receiver also said he felt his job was “to come out here and stay ready to go and just do my job.”
Washington recorded 847 receiving yards in 16 games during his own third NFL season.
Most of his production came down the stretch of the campaign. He made 22 catches on 32 targets for 400 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the final four games of the Jags’ push for the playoffs.
Washington was rewarded in the Wild Card round with a team-high 12 targets, of which he caught seven for 107 receiving yards and a touchdown before the Jaguars were eliminated by the Buffalo Bills.
ESPN’s Michael DiRocco reported last month that Washington had earned his spot as the Jaguars’ WR1 after working as Trevor Lawrence’s “favorite target” in training camp.
Regardless of the wide receiver’s contract status, the Jaguars will hope Lawrence and Washington are able to continue building on that connection when kicking off the season Sunday at 1 p.m. ET against the visiting Cleveland Browns.
