Chiefs rule out starting left tackle for Week 1 matchup with Broncos
KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
The Kansas City Chiefs’ injury report ahead of their Monday night season opener has some concerning names on it.
Starting left tackle Josh Simmons has been ruled out for the matchup with the Denver Broncos on Monday night.
Simmons has been dealing with a back injury during the preseason.
Coach Andy Reid has indicated that undrafted rookie lineman Khalil Benson could protect Mahomes’ blind side on Monday.
Two defensive starters are also dealing with injuries.
Veteran safety Chamarri Conner has been ruled out with a knee injury.
Defensive tackle Chris Jones did not practice on Saturday with a calf injury. The injury report did not say whether or not he’ll play on Monday.
Several players who have dealt with preseason or offseason injuries did practice on Sunday. QB Patrick Mahomes, WR Rashee Rice, WR Xavier Worthy, DE Ashton Gillotte, G Trey Smith, CB L’Jarius Sneed and DE R Mason Thomas were all listed as full practice participants on Saturday.
