‘Mr. Irrelevant’ Trailer: David Corenswet Plays NFL’s John Tuggle In Underdog Biopic About Late NY Giants Player

Although he’s used to playing a man of steel, David Corenswet’s latest role in Mr. Irrelevant is a classic underdog story.

On Sunday, Paramount and Skydance Sports released the trailer for the Jonathan Levine-helmed biopic about the late New York Giants running back, which premieres on Christmas, recounting his final months before his death at age 25 of cancer in 1986, three years after he was drafted by the NFL team.

A true underdog, Tuggle was the final draft pick of the final round in 1983. He defied expectations on the field and off for his then first-year head coach, Bill Parcells (Michael Shannon), his newfound love (Isabel May) and his team, proving that remarkable hope and perseverance can transcend even the greatest challenges.

Written by Nick Santora, the film also stars David Krumholtz, Tuwaine Barrett, Thaddeus LaGrone, Alexander England, Spencer House and Tandi Wright.

Producers include David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Jonathan Levine, Gillian Bohrer and Nick Santora, along with executive producers Jesse Sisgold, Jason T.
