That’s all Cowboys defensive tackle Kenny Clark needs to formulate an opinion on the field before he and the team even arrive.
“Regardless, we’re going out there to play a game on Sunday,” Clark said. “That would be crazy for me to be up here complaining about it. I’m ready to play.”
Clark played in São Paulo two years ago with the Green Bay Packers. While it’s not Rio de Janeiro, the field there drew criticism after the Packers played the Philadelphia Eagles. It was so slippery that Eagles running back Saquon Barkley had to change his cleats during the game to get more traction. Clark wore cleats with seven studs to gain more traction.
“It was just mush. Mushy a little bit,” Clark recalled.
“I wonder how the field is going to look, but yeah, that was a problem last time.”
The Cowboys will get their first look on Saturday. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said they’ll be prepared with different cleat options in case they’re needed. Schottenheimer also indicated that different players could have different and specific cleat preferences, however.
“But some of these guys are funny about the way their cleats feel and the way they want them to feel,” Schottenheimer said. “And so personal preference, we’re not forcing anybody to wear anything, but we’ll have plenty of shoes down there in case we need to adjust.”
