The Miami Dolphins will have rookie safety and special teams contributor Kyle Louis back in action in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

The Dolphins activated Louis off injured reserve Saturday before Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium.

Louis suffered a knee injury in the opener against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sept. 13. It sidelined him for the minimum four games required for an IR stint.

Coming off the Dolphins’ bye week, Louis was back at practice this past week, designated for return on Wednesday. After going through a week’s worth of drills, Louis was deemed game ready.

Louis, who was drafted as a linebacker out of Pittsburgh in the fourth round last April, made a switch to safety during training camp. He provides depth in the secondary behind starters Dante Trader Jr. and Michael Taaffe, as well as a versatile defensive piece, but his more immediate duties at the start of the season were on special teams, serving as a gunner on punt coverage.

Also on Miami’s special teams unit, the team officially elevated kicker Zane Gonzalez, who was signed to the practice squad this past week amid the release of former kicker Riley Patterson.

The Dolphins had an empty spot on the 53-man active roster and didn’t have to make room for Louis because of Patterson’s release and since Gonzalez was added to the practice squad.

Miami also elevated rookie defensive end Max Llewellyn for Sunday’s game at New York.
