Rookie New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo has likely circled November 2 on his calendar—the day he faces the San Francisco 49ers. During a recent appearance on the St. Brown Podcast with Equanimeous and Amon-Ra St. Brown, Skattebo was asked which NFL player he’s most looking forward to going up against.

His answer: 49ers All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner.

“I’ve talked to Fred a couple times,” Skattebo said, clearly eager for the opportunity to test himself against one of the league’s best.

Amon-Ra agreed that Warner was a solid pick, responding, “He’s nice.” Still, he added, “But I feel like, I mean, I feel like we give the Niners defense work every time. But Niners are good. They’re a good defense.”

Interestingly, Skattebo grew up a 49ers fan—at least until the Giants drafted him. That led Amon-Ra to ask if he rooted against his Detroit Lions in the 2023 NFC Championship Game when they faced San Francisco.

“Yes, bro,” Skattebo admitted.

Skattebo even thought the 49ers were going to draft him following significant pre-draft communication with the team.

“I actually thought I was going to end up going to San Francisco with that 100th pick,” Skattebo said. “Vibes started getting high, lights started turning on, videos started turning on, and no phone call.”

Although that dream scenario didn’t play out, the former Faithful is now focused on making an impact in New York. Drafted early on Day 3, Skattebo will get his shot to face the team he once rooted for—and the linebacker he admired.
