Former Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson went on social media Wednesday to share his thoughts about comments Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio made about his release.

During a news conference before Tuesday’s minicamp practice at the NovaCare Complex, Fangio was asked to give his thoughts about the Eagles trading Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans in March for offensive lineman Kenyon Green and a 2026 sixth-round pick.

“That was a salary cap-type thing, and Howie made that decision,” Fangio said. “I was fine with it.”

Gardner-Johnson posted a screenshot of a graphic that showed part of Fangio’s comments about him and wrote: “Just don’t do those young guys like y’all did me 💯💪🏾.” He then posted a new story that has since been deleted.

“I was a test dummy for them, so now they can be like my ‘scheme’ work, or did my skill set make it work 💯,” Gardner-Johnson said. “I had 0 issues. People had issues with me. So yeah let the salary cap be the ‘excuse.’”

Gardner-Johnson also posted “You can’t program a dog 💯,” along with a story of a clip from the movie “Friday After Next,” where Ice Cube’s character Craig tells his cousin Day-Day, portrayed by Mike Epps.

“Kick back, relax,” Craig told Day-Day. “You heard what happened to the last security guards.”

“You didn’t even hear what happened to the last security guard,” Day-Day replied. “You just do your job and I’m going to do mine.”

Last season, Gardner-Johnson had six interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. He also recorded 12 passes defensed and 59 tackles. In his farewell message to Philadelphia after the trade, Gardner-Johnson said he did not want to leave the Eagles and later explained the Eagles were shifting focus to paying younger players, and he wanted an opportunity where he could secure an extension.

With Gardner-Johnson now with the Texans, the Eagles are assessing their options during minicamp and will continue to do so at training camp. Fangio said rookie Drew Mukuba, safety Sydney Brown and Tristin McCollum are getting a chance to replace him, with cornerback Cooper DeJean being given some looks on the back end as well.
