NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Saints will have a new starting quarterback in 2025.
The question is… who will it be?
Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler?
That answer will come much later, but both players have made big strides this offseason.
As the Saints close the book on OTAs, their competition at quarterback is heating up.

“I think their mental capacity, their ability to communicate, has been at a really high level, and I’ve been really appreciative of that,” said Saints head coach Kellen Moore. “Because when you’re a younger player, that’s a lot of the challenge… just navigating all that.”
Second-year pro Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shough have both had big moments during the offseason program.
The Saints’ quarterback room has never been this young.
That’s why vets like Juwan Johnson want to be as reliable as possible, as both guys work their way through.
“I think it’s fun because when you’re back there, especially for us, we don’t care who’s back there anyway,” Johnson said. “I’ve played with nine different quarterbacks. Whoever is back there, we just have to make it happen. That’s just how it’s been.”

Rattler’s been more efficient, and Shough has been more explosive.
Both players had decent days in the red zone. Shough went 7-for-8 and a touchdown, but Rattler went 6-for-8 and three touchdowns.
