KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The man who caught the first touchdown pass thrown by Patrick Mahomes at Arrowhead Stadium has announced his retirement.
Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Chris Conley announced his retirement Saturday morning following 10 seasons in the National Football League.
Conley, who was drafted by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Georgia, announced the news on Instagram.
“When I was a kid I wrote down a set of goals. On that list was ‘Play 10 years in the NFL,’” Conley wrote in a post. “Now that this goal has been accomplished, it’s time to set sights on something new. The past 10 years have been a dream.”
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Conley’s agent Jonathan Perzley said the 32-year-old plans to enroll at Georgia again and go to film school to pursue his dream of being a filmmaker.
During his 10 seasons in the NFL, Conley totaled 226 receptions for 2,998 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Conley tied his career high with 5 touchdown receptions during the 2018 Chiefs season, including a highlight-reel play from quarterback Patrick Mahomes that wound up with Conley on the receiving end of the first passing touchdown of Mahomes’ career at Arrowhead Stadium.
The 5-yard touchdown connection between Mahomes and Conley came against the San Francisco 49ers, a team Conley would later join. In 2023, Conley and the 49ers lost to Mahomes and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.
