The Washington Commanders were thrilled to land cornerback Trey Amos with the No. 61 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. The Commanders considered selecting the Ole Miss defensive back with their first-round pick, and there was no way they would pass on him a second time.
It’s early, but Washington is thrilled with Amos thus far. Amos joins a cornerback room that features returnees Mike Sainristil, Marshon Lattimore and Noah Igbinoghene, and free-agent addition Jonathan Jones. However, Lattimore, acquired in a midseason trade in 2024, has skipped the voluntary portion of the offseason program. That’s meant even more reps for Amos.
And he’s taking advantage of those opportunities.
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel has been excellent since arriving in March and Amos has been matched up with at times during OTAs. Amos has held his own.
Amos stood out during the first week of OTAs, and that trend continued this week.

With Lattimore out, Amos has used it as an opportunity to show coaches he can not only play right away but also start. Ideally, the Commanders would have Sainristil start in the slot, but he proved last season that he could also play outside. Jones also gives Washington inside/outside flexibility, while Amos and Lattimore profile more as outside cornerbacks.
Amos will be one of the more fun players to wat in training camp.
