Anthony Richardson will miss Indianapolis Colts minicamp practices next week with a shoulder injury, said head coach Shane Steichen on Thursday.
According to Steichen, Richardson experienced pain in his throwing shoulder after a recent OTA practice. The pain is related to the same AC joint that he injured during the 2023 season.
Steichen did not put a timetable on Richardson’s return, but surgery is not expected. Following the three-day mandatory minicamp, the Colts will have a break prior to training camp, which they will report for on July 22nd.
Unfortunately, Richardson has had to navigate injuries during his first two NFL seasons, appearing in four games in 2023 and then missing four games in 2024 due to injuries.
This offseason, the Colts brought in free agent Daniel Jones to compete with Richardson for the starting job. The plan, as Steichen has detailed, was for the two to split starting reps throughout offseason programs and into training camp.
Hopefully, Richardson will be good to go for the start of camp, and the competition can continue, but for Thursday’s OTA practice and next week’s minicamp, Jones will handle all of the first-team reps.
