The New Orleans Saints made another roster move to get compliant with NFL rules, having previously released backup quarterback Ben DiNucci on Tuesday morning. The afternoon update to the daily NFL transactions wire said the Saints also cut defensive end Ryder Anderson, who spent most of the 2024 season on their practice squad before being reupped for the 2025 offseason.
Things were getting crowded at that position group. Cameron Jordan, Chase Young, Carl Granderson, and Isaiah Foskey all returned from 2024 with newcomers arriving in free agency (like Jonah Williams and Chris Rumph II, who have both played for first-year defensive coordinator Brandon Staley before) or this year’s NFL draft. The Saints picked Fadil Diggs in the seventh round and signed Jasheen Davis as a rookie free agent. Including Anderson, that’s nine players competing at a group which may only have four of them on the Week 1 roster.
Good luck to Anderson in his next stop. Anderson, 26, played college football at Ole Miss and Indiana before turning pro with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent back in 2022. He has only amassed 8 tackles and a pair of sacks in his brief pro career, but doing so in just seven games is noteworthy. Maybe he’ll get a longer look somewhere else this summer.
