While Monday wasn’t a great day for the Kentucky Wildcats football program, there was some good news.
Maybe this news won’t move a lot of Wildcats fans, but it could be a game-changer on special teams. That’s because Australian punter Wilson Berry is back on the Wildcats roster heading into the summer and fall Camp after not being on the spring roster this year. KSR broke the news first.
In 2024, Berry punted in five of the Wildcats 12 games, though he played in all 12 games primarily as the holder. Berry had 12 punts for 484 yards (40.3 yards per punt) with five of them going inside the 20-yard line.
Berry joins Aidan Laros as the only two punters on Kentucky’s roster going into the 2025 season. Laros had 32 punts that averaged 45.4 yards, with 11 going inside the 20-yard line and 10 traveling 50+ yards. He also handled kickoffs and produced 32 touchbacks.
Laros is a native of South Africa who transferred to Kentucky after playing at Charlotte and UT Martin. Berry is a native of Maribyrnong, Australia, and he makes this eighth straight season the Wildcats will have an Australian punter and nine of the last 10 seasons overall.
Kentucky’s season-opener is on August 30th against Toledo, with kickoff at 12:45 ET on the SEC Network.
