The Seattle Seahawks began their three-day mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. Head coach Mike Macdonald has perfect attendance, with all 90 players accounted for and present. That doesn’t necessarily mean all 90 talents are healthy enough to physically participate in practice, however.
Seahawks EDGE Uchenna Nwosu had offseason knee surgery. The veteran pass rusher was the lone player absent from practice, according to ESPN team reporter Brady Henderson.
In March, Seahawks general manager John Schneider confirmed Nwosu had undergone offseason surgery on his knee. Schneider downplayed it, calling it a “little knee deal” before adding that Nwosu was “rehabbing like crazy right now.” Little deal or not, the Seahawks are displaying patience with his recovery, holding him out of physical activities at minicamp.

Nwosu originally suffered an MCL injury during last year’s preseason from a cut block by Cleveland Browns guard Wyatt Teller in the final exhibition game. Nwosu took a pay cut to remain with the Seahawks earlier this offseason, slashing his salary by $7 million. The gesture saved the Seahawks nearly $9 million in immediate cap space, and more importantly, helped keep him from being a cap casualty.
The Seahawks will continue being patient with the oft-injured Nwosu. Any contributions Mike Macdonald’s defense receives from him this coming season should be considered a bonus. Perhaps Nwosu will be more active once training camp rolls around.
