Kicker Brayden Narveson grateful for opportunity with Green Bay Packers
The newest kicker for the Packers, Brayden Narveson, talks Sunday about his move from the Tennessee Titans to Green Bay and more.
Brayden Narveson’s tenure with the Green Bay Packers didn’t last long in 2024.
His time in the Canadian Football League was even shorter in 2025.
Narveson, who spent just six games for the Packers to begin last season, was looking to revive his career this offseason.
But not in the NFL. He sought his next break with the Edmonton Elks of the CFL. Narveson, however, is again out of a job after he was cut by the Elks ahead of the start of the CFL’s season.
Here’s what we know about Narveson in the CFL, his NFL career and the Packers’ kicking situation ahead of the 2025 season.
Brayden Narveson with the Edmonton Elks
Narveson signed with the Elks on May 28.
His signing came between the team’s first and second preseason games. Narveson did not kick in the team’s final preseason game on May 30. A day later, he was one of 27 players cut as the Elks reduced their roster ahead of the first regular-season game.
The Elks opened the regular season on Saturday, June 7.
Brayden Narveson with the Green Bay Packers
The 25-year-old Narveson will likely now look to join an NFL roster ahead of training camp and impress a team like he did last year.
He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans last year after a five-year college career that spanned three programs.
Narveson, who boasts a big leg, had some highlight-worthy moments in the preseason with the Titans, first with a 59-yard field goal as well as a 46-yard game-winning field goal as time expired in the same contest.
While those performances didn’t do enough for him to earn the job when the Titans’ final cuts were made at the end of August, he caught the attention of the Packers, who were not satisfied with their kickers during the summer.
The Packers signed Narveson just over a week before the regular-season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. He struggled from the start. Narveson missed at least one field goal in four of his six games in Green Bay and finished his Packers tenure making just 12 of 17 field goals (70%). His five missed field goals for the Packers came between 30 and 49 yards.
His worst showing came in a home loss to the Minnesota Vikings when he missed two first-half field goals. The Packers lost the game, 31-29. He was cut after the Packers’ Week 6 win over the Arizona Cardinals, a game in which he missed a 44-yard field goal wide right.
Narveson reunited with the Titans later in the season and joined the active roster on Dec. 21. He played in his only game with the Titans on Dec. 22 against the Indianapolis Colts. He missed his only field goal attempt in a game played indoors in Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Titans cut him again the next day.
Packers roster: kickers
Green Bay’s kicking situation entering 2025 with Brandon McManus is much more stable than it was at this time last year.
In 2024, the Packers brought in multiple kickers to compete with second-year player Anders Carlson, who had a horrible rookie year in 2023.
But they didn’t find a solution throughout the summer as Carlson, Greg Joseph, Alex Hale, among others, were inconsistent. The Packers thought Narveson could then be the answer to begin the 2024 season. But he wasn’t.
McManus was the answer. The Packers signed the 33-year-old McManus ahead of their game against the Houston Texans in Week 7.
And he had a storybook start with the Packers. His 45-yard field goal as time expired gave the Packers a 24-22 win before an electric Lambeau Field, becoming an instant hero with fans. McManus was excellent the rest of the way, going 20 of 21 on field goals during the regular season and perfect in extra points.
The Packers made re-signing the consistent McManus, an unrestricted free agent, a priority in the offseason. The Packers signed McManus to a three-year, $15.3 million contract extension in March.
