The Dallas Cowboys, who annually hold their training camps in Oxnard, California, will once again host the Los Angeles Rams for a joint practice, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer. The daytime date will take place on August 5 four days ahead of the Cowboys visit to play the Rams at SoFi Stadium on for a preseason exhibition on August 9.
The clubs have met for these joint practices before, including last season.
This marks the latest development in what has become a recurring preseason connection between Dallas and Los Angeles. The Cowboys have held training camp in Oxnard nearly every summer since hall of fame coach Bill Parcells was calling the shots in Dallas, and the Rams, familiar with the area, have often been a natural joint-practice partner.
Both teams bring plenty of storylines into the summer. The Cowboys are entering Year 1 under new HC Brian Schottenheimer, a retooled coaching staff, new faces on the roster, and the return of star QB Dak Prescott who was lost to injury mid-way through last season.
On the other sideline, Sean McVay’s Rams are coming off a another playoff appearance and have reloaded around veteran QB Matthew Stafford most notably with the addition of All-Pro WR Davante Adams.
Joint practices in the NFL tend to walk a fine line between controlled competition and bubbling intensity. Don’t be surprised if some fireworks erupt, especially with both squads looking to establish physicality early in camp.
