The Cleveland Browns are now two days deep into mandatory minicamp, and their quarterback competition is getting interesting.

To start both days of minicamp, it was neither veteran Joe Flacco nor Kenny Pickett who was the first to receive first-team reps. Instead, it was their third round pick, Dillon Gabriel, who was given the keys to the car first in team drills. While getting first-team reps over the veterans in a low-risk environment may be no big deal, it does display one of two things: either trust in Gabriel, or the Browns have a laid-out plan to get every quarterback reps to host a true four-way quarterback battle.

Drafted before quarterback Shedeur Sanders, it makes sense that the Browns are working down the pecking order throughout these events. The real competition starts once we get to training camp and the gloves come off.

It is likely that a veteran like Flacco will start the season, but it won’t shock anyone to see both Gabriel and Sanders start games for the Browns at some point in 2025.
