With Jake Ferguson coming off somewhat of a down season, can you see Luke Schoonmaker challenging him for the starting tight end position? – Reuben Johnson/Nashville, TN

Patrik: I do believe there’s potential for Schoonmaker to be a solid starter in the league for a team that utilizes his skill set in such a way as to maximize that fit, but it’s also true that Jake Ferguson owns attributes better suited to what Brian Schottenheimer and the Cowboys are hoping to get from a TE1 — e.g., YAC ability. Schoonmaker made major strides in 2024, when Ferguson dealt with a knee injury and a concussion, and he deserves roses for the work he’s put in, and I’m interested to see if he can level up that much more so in Year 3. But I believe, for Schoonmaker, this season will be more about trying to keep Brevyn Spann-Ford at bay in the battle for TE2; and that Ferguson will reunite with a healthy Dak Prescott, and in a contract year, no less, to show why he deserves to keep the crown he once took away from Dalton Schultz.
