Antonio Brown was outside US when attempted murder warrant issued, Miami police say

MIAMI – Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown was out of the country when Miami police issued a warrant for his arrest on a charge of attempted murder with a firearm stemming from a shooting last month at a celebrity boxing event, authorities confirmed.

According to an arrest warrant obtained Friday by Local 10 News, Brown faces a charge of second-degree attempted murder with a firearm. The warrant requests that Brown post a $10,000 bond and be placed on house arrest until trial if apprehended.

A Miami police officer confirmed that Brown left the U.S. in the days following the May 17 incident.

The officer told Local 10 News on Saturday that investigators believe Brown is currently in the Middle East or Asia. Authorities did not specify which country, nor did they say when he left.

Authorities said they responded to the area of 221 NE 67th St. around 3 a.m. May 17 after receiving an alert from the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system. Police said they questioned several individuals at the scene, but no arrests were made at the time and no injuries were reported.

Video posted to social media shows Brown involved in a brawl during the boxing event, which was hosted by popular streamer Adin Ross. Brown is seen fighting with several people and apparently holding a black pistol while chasing someone. Gunshots can be heard off-camera moments later.

The warrant states that the intended target was Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, who initially engaged in a one-on-one fight with Brown. Two other individuals joined in the scuffle, attacking Nantambu. Security staff intervened to break up the altercation, but Brown was allegedly seen on video grabbing a firearm from one of the security guards.

Brown then chased after Nantambu and fired two shots, according to the warrant. Nantambu ducked after hearing the first shot and was not hit.

Additional video from the scene showed Brown with his hands behind his back as an officer escorted him from the venue. However, he was not arrested that night because police said they did not locate a victim.

Shortly after the incident, Brown posted on social media, claiming he was “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.”

“Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED,” he wrote.

Brown did not address the gunfire in his post.

Authorities said they know who fired the shots but have not publicly released that information.

Brown, 36, played nine seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers, becoming one of the NFL’s most dominant wide receivers and twice leading the league in receiving yards. He later had brief stints with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before his career ended abruptly in 2021, when he walked off the field mid-game during a Buccaneers matchup against the New York Jets.

Brown announced his retirement in 2022 but has remained in the public eye through social media, music, and appearances at celebrity sporting events.

The warrant remains active, and investigators said they are working with federal authorities regarding Brown’s whereabouts.
