Abe Lucas says OL can be as good as it wants to be this year. Says they have the coaches, tools & identity, which is different than last year.

How is identity different? The commitment to the run game, Abe says. Notes the fullback presence accentuates that.

The Seattle Seahawks‘ biggest weakness throughout the 2024 season was undeniably their offensive line. General manager John Schneider and head coach Mike Macdonald went to lengths to make positive changes up front this offseason. The Seahawks are hoping that coaching changes will benefit their offensive linemen, but they’ve also acquired blockers via free agency and the NFL draft.

Seattle recently completed their two-day mandatory minicamp. Right tackle Abe Lucas was a notable participant. Speaking with the media, Lucas said the offensive line can be as good as it wants to be this year, per Michael-Shawn Dugar. The right tackle believes they have the coaches, tools, and identity needed to improve in 2025, citing the run game specifically.

New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is expected to field a run-heavy offense. Offensive line coach John Benton will focus on improvement from within. The shift in approach should benefit blockers like Lucas, who is entering a fate-deciding contract year at right tackle.

The Seahawks will hold competitions at several offensive line positions at training camp. Olu Oluwatimi and Jalen Sundell are competing at center, as are Christian Haynes and Anthony Bradford at right guard. Lucas firmly believes the final product will be significantly better than the 2024 iteration was.
