At 73 days to go, we highlight the 1973 Penn State Nittany Lions football team.

In Joe Paterno’s 8th year as head coach, Penn State went undefeated, a perfect 12-0. Featuring wins over all three service academies, as well as regional rivals West Virginia, Maryland, and of course, #20 Pitt, the Lions never ranked worse than #7 in the country, and climbed as high as #5 overall.

The Lions capped the season with a 16-9 win over #13 LSU in the Orange Bowl, and followed it up with running back John Cappelletti winning the Heisman, the only Penn State player to achieve that honor.
