SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – The South Bend Cubs returned home on Tuesday night to start a six-game series against the Lake County Captains. But while they’re in the middle of their regular season, they got a couple athletes in their offseason to get this one started.
Notre Dame football players Jaden Greathouse and Eli Raridon each threw out a first pitch before the matchup. Both players showed off some of their athleticism by throwing their pitches right down the middle.
“I think I did a pretty good job at it,” said Greathouse, a junior wide receiver. “I didn’t get to see the video yet, so we’ll study the film later. But it was good, and I was nervous, but it was a fun experience. I had a lot of fun.”
Greathouse and Raridon stuck around for the game and signed some autographs for fans, along with some of their teammates
For these players, it was the perfect experience to give back to the South Bend community during a downtime of their year.
“It’s awesome that we have a big turnout especially just coming to support us, and we’re excited to give back to the community and we are overwhelmed and grateful for all the support from the around the community,” said Raridon, a senior tight end.
Unfortunately for the Cubs, the luck of the Irish didn’t help as they fell to the Captains 10-2.
