The two biggest offseason acquisitions for the Seattle Seahawks this year were quarterback Sam Darnold and wide receiver Cooper Kupp. These two veterans will be replacing Geno Smith and DK Metcalf in the hopes this new-look Seahawks offense can help elevate the team from the stagnation they’ve been in for quite some time.
Cooper Kupp has only had two quarterbacks throwing him the ball in his career: Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford. Now he will have a third with Sam Darnold, who has bounced around this league quite a bit during his now eight year career. Darnold seemingly resurrected his career in Minnesota last season, and the Seahawks are taking a gamble that his success with the Vikings in 2024 was a sign that he’s turned a corner as a professional. Right now, it appears his new wide receiver seems to buy into that sentiment.
Kupp appeared recently on an episode of Good Morning Football and offered high praise towards Darnold.
Darnold was sublime for the Vikings, as he threw for 4,319 yards and touchdowns with a yards per attempt of 6.4. He also helped guide Minnesota to 14 wins and a trip to the playoffs. Needless to say, all of those numbers were career-highs for the former USC Trojan. Seattle is hoping that paired with his former quarterback coach from their shared time in San Francisco, Klint Kubiak, that Darnold can possibly replicate some of the success. If not the raw numbers, but at least the ability to be a difference maker in the Seahawks offense.
Of course, having a steady and reliable receiver like Cooper Kupp to throw to will always help out any quarterback in need.
