Former Giants placekicker Jay Feely got caught spiking the football before the game — or in this case, war — had ended.
Feely praised President Donald Trump on Monday for entering the war between Israel and Iran, and for preemptively bombing three Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend to deter Iran’s capabilities to produce a nuclear weapon.
Iran retaliated on Monday by firing missiles at a U.S. base in Qatar. However, No casualties were reported, and both Qatar and the Trump administration were made aware of the attack ahead of the time.
Meanwhile, Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire, which Trump announced, leading to Feely’s premature celebration on Monday.
“President Trump’s 1st term brought historic peace in the Middle East via the Abraham Accords,” Feely wrote on X on Monday, in response to Trump’s “complete and total ceasefire” announcement. “Six months into his 2nd term, his decisive action has brought American hostages home, prevented Iran from developing nuclear weapons, and once again brokered peace.
“Peace through power!”
However, missiles from Iran and promises of retribution from Israel continued to rain down on each other despite Trump’s announcement on Monday.
Iran is not taking this war lying down, no matter how hard Trump suggests he has control of it all.
Therefore, Feely’s tweet did not age well, which NFL writer and Pro Football Hall of Fame selector, Jason Cole, pointed out: “Oops. @jayfeely‚” Cole responded as chaos ensued.
Feely, who played on seven NFL teams over 14 years, is running for Congress as a Republican in Arizona’s 5th Congressional District. He is a conservative who supports Trump and the “America First” agenda. His decision to run for office, he says, was inspired by Trump’s assassination attempt.
However, not all Trump backers support war. In fact, most of them don’t, which helped Trump get re-elected.
During his campaign, Trump drove home the need to end “endless” or “forever wars” and criticized the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also stated that removing “warmongers and America-last globalists” was among his foreign policy priorities.
Trump pledged to prevent World War III and bring about peace, particularly in the Middle East. He also emphasized building a stronger military to deter wars from breaking out.
Now in office, Trump has changed his tune, and like a child who has thrown a rock and hid his hands, wants peace.
Trump voiced frustration with Israel and Iran on Tuesday morning following the debacle. Trump admitted that both countries had violated the terms of the ceasefire, and he implored Israel to recall warplanes and not “drop those bombs.”
