Ex Jets QB Aaron Rodgers Turns Heads With Career Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The New York Jets hoped two years ago that they would be able to capitalize on the twilight years of Aaron Rodgers’ career. Boasting a solid infrastructure around him, the Jets hoped to find themselves back in position to contend.

Their forecast could not have gone more wrong. New York lost Rodgers with a torn Achilles on the first drive of the 2023 season, and things went up in smoke in 2024, his only full season with the team.

Now the Jets are ready to move in a separate direction, installing a new head coach in Aaron Glenn and a new quarterback in Justin Fields. The Jets are far from a guarantee to make a massive leap next season but have the proper building blocks to find success in the coming years.

Meanwhile, their former quarterback has reached the end of the road. Many presumed that 2025 could be his final season in the NFL and Rodgers confirmed that likelihood Tuesday morning during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“I’m pretty sure this is it,” Rodgers said. “That’s why we just did a one-year deal — Steelers didn’t need to put any extra years on that or anything. This was really about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I’ve had. I mean, I’ve played freaking 20 years, you know? It’s been a long run, and I’ve enjoyed it.”

Rodgers had nothing but compliments for his new team, praising the Pittsburgh Steelers while embracing the expectations for the upcoming campaign.

“What better place to finish than in one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL with Mike Tomlin and a great group of leadership and great guys and a city that expects you to win.”

The move to Pittsburgh had been rumored for months, only becoming official just days before the team’s mandatory minicamp. Rodgers’ delay in getting back to football activities had fans questioning whether he wanted to return at all.

Nonetheless, Rodgers will get his farewell tour in the Steel City this season. For Jets fans there is certainly a sense of relief that he is no longer of their concern.
