A blast from the Lions inglorious past is back in the NFL news. Wide receiver Quintez Cephus appeared on the NFL’s transaction wire after being placed on waivers by the Los Angeles Rams.

Cephus was a tantalizing yet polarizing wideout during his three years in Detroit. The big Wisconsin product came to the Lions as a fifth-round draft pick in 2020 and had a promising rookie campaign, catching 20 passes for 349 yards and two TDs in the final year of the Matt Patricia regime.

Not known for his speed or durability, the 6-foot-1, 208-pound Cephus struggled to get on the field over the next two seasons thanks to injuries and imprecise route running as the Lions transitioned into the Dan Campbell offense with Jared Goff at QB. Detroit released Cephus, who still had vociferously strong support from a fair portion of the fanbase, after the 2022 season.

Cephus has bounced around with three other teams since, including the Rams. He’s yet to take a regular-season snap in another uniform. There seems to be zero chance of this Lions regime being interested in a second go-around with Cephus.
