Sometimes the Buffalo Bills appear to have a great linebacker pair on the field for their defense.
Others… not so much.
That’s something that ties up Pro Football Focus in their team-by-team linebacker ratings ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

Overall, PFF has ranked the Bills’ linebacker unit as the No. 22 group in the league.
The unit is led by Matt Milano and Terrel Bernard. Both player have had their successes in the NFL, however, Milano’s injury history has hampered Buffalo’s ability to cover the pass on defense. That’s where PFF knocks the Bills’ starting duo in the middle of their defense.
If Milano can stay on the field in 2025 following the various injuries he has sustained over his career, that could help Buffalo’s standing on such a list improve. But that will impact his personal future, too.
Milano reworked his deal this offseason and he is now entering the final year of his deal. Milano could re-sign if he stays on the field in 2025 an remain win Buffalo… but next season will give us that answer.

PFF’s full breakdown can be found below:
Buffalo’s top six linebackers from last season return to the team in 2025. The only issue is that the Bills fielded the lowest-graded linebacker unit in the NFL. Their 28.9 PFF coverage grade was the biggest culprit, which means they need a healthy bounce-back from Matt Milano. He recorded an outstanding 85.6 PFF coverage grade across 2022 and 2023 but struggled to a career-low 45.1 mark last season.
While Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams are credible run defenders, they also struggled to sub-40.0 PFF coverage grades last season.
